'Inspire people with the vision, don't manage the process'
"If you want to build a ship, then don't drum up men to gather wood,
give orders and divide the work. Rather, teach them to yearn
for the far and endless sea."
Antoine de Saint Exupery.
The main role of a leader is to articulate the vision, influence the culture, and inspire others to do
their best. Provided people know where they are all going, and what their role is, they will find their
own ways to achieve corporate or organisational goals.
The worst thing for a leader to do is to interfere in the day to day details of people's work.
Change requires leadership, not management. Efforts to 'manage change' will be much less effective than
'leading change'.
"The leader's job is to set the direction and get out of the way."
- David Kirk. Captain of the All Blacks and adviser to the New Zealand Prime Minister.
"If you tell people where to go, but not how to get there, you will be amazed by the results."
- General George Patten.
